There is evidence of a coverup and downplay of the potential seriousness. Watch out for opportunists, hoaxes, spoofs, serious omissions or false data. Some scientists might be funded by downplayers. Others might be legitimate watchdogs. Some alternative or mainstream news sources might be lying, while others might be legitimate. People trying to force a conspiracy might have latent agendas, while others indicating conspiratoral plume doom might be correct. Thos who carry known contaminants might be used by enemies as diseases against another country - either through radiation or biological warfare elements. This could include ex-war prisoners being sent home. Bodies of animals with known radiation contaminants become a hazard in terms of disposal. Cultural stigmas against radiation poison might create a variety of coverups and non-disclosures to the detriment of everyone. The guy or gal next to you could be a carrier. One unusual seeming (so far) alternative news version: non-natural tsunami, virus in computer, nuclear attack/planted bombs around reactors - could have been the actual cause, according to one source below (see Truth News International). Brief Links/Fukushima: Brief Links-Fukushima SUMMARY From Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/11/thousands-of-radioactive-boars-are-overrunning- farmland-in-fukushima/?utm_term=.ef710353cab2 On Friday, March 11, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck offshore near Tokyo and caused a 30-foot high tsunami that crashed into Japan’s coast, killing 18,000 people, according to The Washington Post. Water poured into the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant, flooding the generators designed to keep the plant’s reactors cool. Later that day, an explosion rocked the plant, and more than 200,000 residents living within 12 miles were evacuated as radioactive material began leaking into the surrounding land. In the ensuing days, two more explosions shook the plant, and several fires broke out. It was a true nuclear meltdown. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/11/thousands-of-radioactive-boars-are-overrunning- farmland-in-fukushima/?utm_term=.ef710353cab2 A-C ABC dot net: Revisiting Fukushima, 5 years on. Key points: 600 tonnes of nuclear fuel still needs to be accounted for . Robots sent into the reactor have been disabled by radiation. 10 million bags of contaminated soil have been removed. In an exclusive interview with Foreign Correspondent, the Tokyo Electric Power Company's chief of decommissioning at Fukushima, Naohiro Masuda, said the company hoped to pinpoint the position of the fuel and begin removing it from 2021. But he admitted the technology needed to remove the fuel has to be invented. "Once we can find out the condition of the melted fuel and identify its location, I believe we can develop the necessary tools to retrieve it," Mr Masuda said. "So it's important to find it as soon as possible." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-24/fukushima-operator-reveals-600-tonnes-melted-during-the-disaster/7396362 CBS http://www.cbsnews.com/news/japan-fukushima-thyroid-cancer-patient-is-first-to-speak-out/ http://www.cbsnews.com/news/fukushima-tepco-power-japan-nuclear-meltdown-apologizes-cover-up/ Cornell University Archive https://arxiv.org/abs/1103.4853 Arrival time and magnitude of airborne fission products from the Fukushima, Japan, reactor incident as measured in Seattle, WA, USA. Schubert (Submitted on 24 Mar 2011 (v1), last revised 23 Aug 2011 (this version, v4)) We report results of air monitoring started due to the recent natural catastrophe on 11 March 2011 in Japan and the severe ensuing damage to the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear reactor complex. On 17-18 March 2011, we registered the first arrival of the airborne fission products 131-I, 132-I, 132-Te, 134-Cs, and 137-Cs in Seattle, WA, USA, by identifying their characteristic gamma rays using a germanium detector. We measured the evolution of the activities over a period of 23 days at the end of which the activities had mostly fallen below our detection limit. The highest detected activity amounted to 4.4 +/- 1.3 mBq/m^3 of 131-I on 19-20 March. https://arxiv.org/abs/1103.4853 D, E, F Forbes Fukushima time bomb or training device (2016) https://www.forbes.com/sites/rodadams/2016/08/26/fukushima-time-bomb-or-training-device/#65c1b8d423fe Extreme radiation levels detected at fukushima (03/02/2017) https://www.forbes.com/sites/williampentland/2017/02/03/extreme-radiation-levels-detected-at-fukushima-reactor-highest- since-2011/#72ab2a733cdd On Thursday, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the investor-owned utility that operates the Fukushima reactors, reported that it detected a radiation level of 530 sieverts per hour in the containment vessel of reactor 2 at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant.A sievert is a measure of the health effect of low levels of ionizing radiation on the human body. Even a brief exposure to 530 sieverts of radiation would kill a person. Exposure to only one sievert is enough to result in infertility, loss of hair and cataracts. According to the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, exposure to a mere four sieverts of radiation would typically be lethal for one out of every two people. The highest level of radiation detected previously at the Fukushima reactor was 73 sieverts per hour. According to the Japan Times, the reading was taken near the entrance to the space just below the pressure vessel, which contains the reactor core. The extremely high radiation levels suggest that some of the melted fuel that escaped the pressure vessel is nearby.TEPCO had planned to deploy a remote-controlled robot to assess conditions inside the containment vessel. But, considering the extreme radiation levels, it is unclear whether it will be able to do so. The robot is designed to withstand exposure of up to 1,000 sieverts. Based on the calculation of 73 sieverts per hour, the robot could run for more than 10 hours, but 530 sieverts per hour means it would be rendered inoperable in less than two hours. https://www.forbes.com/sites/williampentland/2017/02/03/extreme-radiation-levels-detected-at-fukushima-reactor-highest- since-2011/#72ab2a733cdd Scientists find new kind of fukushima fallout. Seventy-five percent of Iitate is contaminated forested mountains. A recent Greenpeace Japan led survey team found radiation dose rates at houses in the village of Iitate well above long- term government targets, with annual and lifetime exposure levels posing a long-term risk to citizens who may return. Evacuation orders will be lifted for Iitate no later than 31 March 2017, to be followed one year later by the termination of compensation payments. “The relatively high radiation values, both inside and outside houses, show an unacceptable radiation risk for citizens if they were to return to Iitate. For citizens returning to their irradiated homes they are at risk of receiving radiation equivalent to one chest X-ray every week. This is not normal or acceptable,” said Ai Kashiwagi, energy campaigner with Greenpeace Japan http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/press/releases/2017/Greenpeace-exposes-high-radiation-risks-in-Fukushima-village-as- government-prepares-to-lift-evacuation-order/ Fukushima nuclear disaster http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/nuclear/safety/accidents/Fukushima-nuclear-disaster/ The Fukushima nuclear disaster showed us once again that nuclear reactors are fundamentally dangerous. Not only do they cause significant damage to the environment, the health of populations and to national economies, the heavy financial cost of a meltdown is inevitably borne by the public, not by the companies that designed, built, and operated the plants. None of the world’s 436 nuclear reactors are immune to human errors, natural disasters, or any of the many other serious incidents that could cause a disaster. Millions of people who live near nuclear reactors are at risk. The lives of hundreds of thousands of people continue to be affected by the Fukushima nuclear disaster, especially the 160,000 who fled their homes because of radioactive contamination, and continue to live in limbo without fair, just, and timely compensation. They have only a false hope of returning home, yet the Japanese government is eagerly pushing to restart reactors, against the will of its people, and without learning true lessons from Fukushima. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/nuclear/safety/accidents/Fukushima-nuclear-disaster/ Lessons from Fukushima (02/28/2012) http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/publications/Campaign-reports/Nuclear-reports/Lessons-from-Fukushima/ Fukushima Fallout (02/15/2013) http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/publications/Campaign-reports/Nuclear-reports/Fukushima-Fallout/ I-L, M-O Jones, Alex https://www.prisonplanet.com/former-msnbc-host-told-not-to-warn-public-about-fukushima.html NOVA: The Nuclear Disaster of Fukushima - DOCUMENTARY. By Ken Buesseler (03/09/2016) http://ourradioactiveocean.org/ http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/fukushima-radiation-continues-to-leak-into-the-pacific-ocean/ Excerpt: With the help of my colleagues in Japan and around the world, I’ve spent the past five years piecing together the impacts that radioactive releases from Fukushima have had on the ocean, marine life, and the people who live on both sides of the Pacific. In the process of sharing our insights with scientists and the public, I’ve become frustrated with both sides of the nuclear power debate for embracing either overly alarmist or dismissive attitudes toward the problem. In addition, I’ve grown concerned over the lack of oversight for radioactive contamination in U.S. waters. On March 11, 2011, the devastation in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami provided a stark lesson in nature’s power. But in the days that followed, another disaster unfolded at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that continues to underscore how human activities can leave a discernible imprint on something as large as the Pacific Ocean and on people and organisms thousands of miles away. This event is unprecedented in its total release of radioactive contamination into the ocean. Five years later, the story from the Japanese side of the Pacific is this: Overall, things are under control with the construction of an “ice wall” to prevent the continued releases of contaminated water into the ocean, and fishing has resumed in all regions except those within 10 kilometers of the reactors. However, these milestones obscure the fact that the Japanese will be wrestling with the cleanup for decades and will spend trillions of yen in the process. It also minimizes the threats posed by millions of gallons of highly contaminated water on the power plant grounds and the likelihood that storms and other natural events will continue to mobilize contaminants currently trapped in soils and ocean sediments near shore. More than 80 percent of the radioactivity from the damaged reactors ended up in the Pacific — far more than reached the ocean from Chernobyl or Three Mile Island. Of this, a small fraction is currently on the seafloor — the rest was swept up by the Kuroshio current, a western Pacific version of the Gulf Stream, and carried out to sea where it mixed with (and was diluted by) the vast volume of the North Pacific. These materials, primarily two isotopes of cesium, only recently began to appear in the eastern Pacific: In 2015 we detected signs of radioactive contamination from Fukushima along the coast near British Columbia and California. Although just barely discernible by our most sophisticated instruments, these signs, and the many more signs from samples we’ve collected on both sides of the Pacific, show that releases have continued, but that at current rates, it would take 5,000 years to equal the amount of cesium released in the accident’s first few months. Despite this, the fact remains that this event is unprecedented in its total release of radioactive contamination into the ocean. Nevertheless, we often struggle to detect signals from Fukushima above the background radiation that surrounds us every day. So what’s the middle ground? First, it is incorrect to say that Fukushima is under control when levels of radioactivity in the ocean indicate ongoing leaks, caused by groundwater flowing through the site and, we think, enhanced after storms. At the same time, it is also wrong to attribute to Fukushima events like recent die-offs of seal, whale, and starfish along the West Coast rather than see that they are far more complex and have been happening for far longer than we’d like to admit. Recently, I’ve begun to see a much more serious threat to U.S. waters. With our nearly 100 reactors, many on the coast or near inland waterways that drain to the ocean, you might expect a federal agency to be responsible for supporting research to improve our understanding of how radioactive contamination originating from one of these sites would affect our marine resources. Instead, the response we receive from an alphabet-soup of federal agencies is that such work “is in the national interest,” but ultimately “not our job.” As a result, we have turned to crowd funding to help us build data along the West Coast to address immediate public concerns and to keep a watchful eye out to sea. That is no longer sufficient. As the EPA runs RadNet, which monitors radioactivity in the air we breathe, we need an OceanNet to do the same for our nation’s waters. We also need to do a better job of educating the public about radioactivity to lessen the impact of both inflammatory and dismissive rhetoric. Fortunately, accidents on the scale of Fukushima are rare, but there is a great deal more we can and should do to prepare should something similar happen here. We can’t simply cast our lot on good fortune. Instead, we need to do everything we can to fill the knowledge gaps that have the potential to do great harm in the wake of disaster. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/fukushima-radiation-continues-to-leak-into-the-pacific-ocean/ Fukushima: The Invisible Season (video clips, etc.) http://www.pbs.org/pov/theinvisibleseason/ http://www.pbs.org/pov/fukushima/ http://www.pbs.org/pov/fukushima/stories/01_tomoko/ http://www.pbs.org/pov/fukushima/map/ Scientific American Fukushima released more far more radiation than government said. The Japan earthquake was man made and had a peak seismic intensity of 6.67 Richter and happened 100 km inland at seismic station MYGOO4. The tsunami was caused by nuclear weapons, a total of six of them, set off in sequence in the Japan trench to trigger an enormous tsunami. The fact that there was no major earthquake in Japan is easily proven – just look at all the youtube videos of the approaching tsunami and look for earthquake damage. There is NONE, NADA, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, and even the Sendai damage report showed that there were absolutely NO collapsed structures and zero leaning structures. Sendai, a city of over a million people, was less than 30 miles from the reported epicenter and suffered no significant damage of any sort at all. A 9.0 is such a huge quake that China, Korea, and Russia should have seen significant earthquake damage from one happening in Japan and everything in Sendai should have been leveled. Yet no nation outside of Japan could even feel it. To shake Tokyo, a second fake earthquake was triggered near seismic station IBR003. All of this is in the official Japanese seismic record. Erol Kalkan, a former Turkish Persian now working for the USGS, fabricated phony USGS ground accelerations to support a 9.0 scenario, and the U.S. government is still unfortunately trusted with this type of work. So Europe and the rest of the world are looking at the phony USGS reports while the Japanese seismologists spin in their graves (I am assuming most of them have been killed by now to silence them). Erol Kalkan’s charts in no way match the Japanese seismic records, and to prove it, JUST WATCH THE TSUNAMI VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE. All of the Japanese seismic records, and Erol Kalkan’s scam, are in the Fukushima report. Additionally, to see what happens to Japan in only a 6.9 earthquake, just use Google images and look at what happened in the Kobe earthquake. There is a limit to how well things can be built, and even Japan suffers from only a 6.9. Seismic energy increases by 37X for every magnitude increase, so the 3/11 quake was 37X37 times as strong as the Kobe quake. Why did nothing collapse? Fukushima destroyed by Stuxnet virus in 1-3 and nuclear device under reactor controllers 3; Israeli security firm/defense Magna BSP and IDF; fake cameras confused a similar looking nuke device under 3; Stuxnet hit Siemens Fukushima was destroyed by the Stuxnet virus and nuclear weapons, while it’s staff was confused by the mayhem caused by the tsunami. Contrary to what scammers out there are saying, Fukushima Diiachi was an extremely well run nuclear facility with everything in top notch condition. This facility contracted with Israeli security firm Magna BSP to provide security for the entire facility. Magna BSP was in fact operating as a front company for the Israeli defense forces. Magna BSP managed to plant the Stuxnet virus in the controllers for reactors 1-3. They also managed to install a totally unauthorized data connection to the inner containment at reactor 3, where they installed a nuclear weapon under reactor 3 that was thinly disguised as a security camera. They had already installed similar looking cameras that were real cameras around the perimeter of the Fukushima Diiachi grounds. These outdoor cameras were functioning stereoscopic units that could see for miles, and were remarkable in their performance. But they were the precursor for a deception – a fake nuke camera that was placed deep underground, in the area which contained the suppression tank directly under reactor 3. The functioning version of this camera is pictured on the left. The EXACT nuke camera that was used to destroy reactor 3 is pictured below, along with diagrams for gun type nuclear weapons. Michu Kaku was right in saying nuclear weapons destroyed Fukushima, but he got the precedent wrong. It was not a joint defense pact, it was Magna BSP and the IDF acting alone. And I got my hands on a photograph of the EXACT WEAPON USED. Generators never swamped, no loss of power naturally from Stuxnet virus. The generators never swamped, and external power to Fukushima was never lost. After doing the final as[s]essment after the disaster, it was proven that outside power to Fukushima was never lost, and that the diesel generators would therefore have never been needed. But the power switched off, all by itself, and no one can figure out why. Except those aware of the Stuxnet virus. For a detailed report on the Stuxnet virus, go to the Fukushima report and scroll down the page until you get to the portion of that report that describes in detail exactly what happened during the virus attack. In addition to this, of the 17 diesel generators out at Fukushima, 4 got significant water, and the rest never flooded at all. Yet 12 of the 13 generators that never got an ounce of water switched off all by themselves, and the one that remained running was the only one not connected to a Siemens Scada controller, which the Stuxnet virus infects. One generator remained running throughout the entire disaster, the only one not controlled by a Siemens Scada controller, but the IDF had a handle on that one because the electrical transfer switch that managed it’s output between it and reactors 1-4 was controlled by a virus infected controller, which prevented this switch from activating. This generator however had no siemens scada controlled switch between it and reactors 5 and 6, which had no problems because this last lone generator kept their pumps… Virus impacted brought in temporary replacement generators Additionally, after having all generators “fail”, Tepco had flat bed semi truck mounted generators brought in, generators that would have easily prevented any problems and they were there in less than 8 hours, all hooked up and ready to go, but the same Stuxnet infected transfer switches that prevented the generator supporting reactors 5 and 6 from saving reactors 1-3 would not allow them to have the flat bed mounted generators provide power to reactors 1-3 as well, so the disaster could unfold by the script. For all the details, read the Fukushima report, it is a massive report without an ounce of fluff and it put me on the run and cost me my well being. You cannot dig the facts about an act of war to that level of detail and get away unscathed. The big question is WHY would Israel trigger a tsunami and destroy a nuclear facility… Blames Goldman Sachs and World Bank as applying Nuclear Blackmail to Japan, USA and others - Man made earthquake, nuclear tsunami, disaster at Fukushima The answer is simple…The world banks, Goldman Sachs, and other financial scammers had gotten into a routine of bankrupting nations via massive “banker bailouts”, and Japan was having none of it. When they approached Japan for their “bailout”, which was in NO WAY OWED, the same way America’s bailout was in NO WAY OWED, and exceeded loan defaults by over 10X, loans which when defaulted on still resulted in the loss of homes (the U.S. “bailout” was a total fraud, used as a cover story for Nuclear Blackmail READ THAT ONE, IT IS A CORNERSTONE TO UNDERSTANDING ALL OF THIS, Anyway, the Japanese had a strong economy with no debt and they got approached the same way with the threat of destruction and said NO. As a result, the global scamming elite delivered a fake man made earthquake and nuclear tsunami, and topped it off with a disaster at Fukushima. Now the Japanese are now donating TRILLIONS to the world bank, “willfully” to “end world poverty”. This means that certain poor impoverished boys will receive solid gold kippas as bar mitzvot gifts. Other nations are now blackmailed READ THAT LINK ALSO, it is important, And if things do not go EXACTLY the way the zionist bankers/sachs/ and other “elite” criminals want, other nations will now suffer nuclear armageddons the same way Japan did. Scammers like ENE news and Rense are being used to cover up the reality of NUCLEAR BLACKMAIL. If you wonder why I am so pissed off about dead starfish stories, West Coast is frying stories, and all the times ENE published spurious B.S. to blame it all on Tepco, it is because I know full well that these web sites are psy ops serving ONE PURPOSE – to cover up the realities in the Fukushima report and shift the blame away from Israel and others in the U.S. who were involved in this attack on Japan, so the threat of nuclear blackmail can still be used to keep nations subservient to a zionist elite. The threat of nuclear blackmail only works if the only people who know about it are key people in national governments. If the public at large knew what was really going on behind the scenes, Israel would be TOAST TOAST TOAST, average people would pressure their governments to nuke Israel off the face of the earth, regardless of what it cost them in the form of virus attacks and exploded nuclear facilities as well as having nuclear weapons go off. The article nuclear blackmail explains how Helium 3 is now missing for no reason, other than to disable neutrino detectors which has allowed the IDF to get nuclear weapons smuggled into nations. Israel does not need a nuclear missile delivery system if the nukes are already planted in key places in the victim nations. Pay up, or BOOM. By sounding too shrill for reality, sites like ENE news are causing moderate thinking people to turn a blind eye toward the entire topic of the Japan disaster, and thereby a blind eye to the reality of nuclear blackmail. It is true that Japan is for the most part wrecked by reactor 3, but it really is Japan’s problem. The Pacific ocean will survive this no problem. There won’t be any problems with radioactive beaches, if you hear this “west coast is frying” crap, run from whoever posts it as fast as possible. Many police cars have well calibrated geiger counters in them, and they still pull over radiotherapy patients. If Fukushima radiation was that bad in the U.S., a radiotherapy patient would not show up on a police geiger counter while speeding 70 mph in the opposite direction because radiotherapy patients are barely radioactive at all. That one key indicator can call B.S. on a lot of the mania with regard to the West Coast frying. By Sayuri Romei (03/10/2017) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/03/10/six-years-after-the-fukushima-disaster-its-victims-are-still- suffering/?utm_term=.9213460bd9b4 Excerpt: This article so important most is included here: One narrative used by the media in its Fukushima reporting described those who volunteered to return to the dangerous site as “samurai,” “kamikaze,” or simply “Fukushima heroes.” But my research with Japanese people who have survived radioactive exposure — first from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, and then from Fukushima — suggests that they bear the burden of discrimination and shame. In Japan, these survivors are known as the hibakusha. Although pronounced the same way, depending on the characters used, the term can either refer to atomic bomb survivors or victims of radiation after a nuclear power plant accident . Both face continuing difficulties in Japanese society. [Did Trump and Abe just launch a new chapter in U.S.-Japan relations?] According to Shuntaro Hida, a Hiroshima eyewitness who later became the director of the Hibakusha Counseling Center, about 80 percent of atomic bomb survivors chose to hide their status as survivors — from anyone, including spouses — for fear of being discriminated against. Being a hibakusha is a heavy burden that can undermine opportunities to find a spouse. Lee Jong Keun, a Korean-Japanese hibakusha from Hiroshima, married but did not reveal to his wife and three daughters that he was a survivor until 2012. That is because, he said, “being a victim of the bomb was so shameful.” In a letter to her sister published by the Asahi Shimbun in 2010, Kazue Inoue wrote that she was turned down by many potential marriage partners explicitly because she was a Nagasaki hibakusha. Finally, she chose not to disclose her status to the matchmaker — and wed in the 1960s. But when her mother-in-law found out that Inoue was a hibakusha, she would not accept the idea of her bearing children: “What if you give birth to a freak of nature?” Inoue’s marriage did not last long after that. In her letter, she wrote, “How could anyone blame my former mother-in-law? I understand her feelings.” [Donald Trump wants to change U.S. nuclear policy. Most Americans aren’t persuaded.] The hibakusha often have to hide their arms even in the summer, because keloid scars are considered contagious. Although there is no official ban against them, the hibakusha, as Hiroshima survivor Masaya Kutsunai now recalls, still shy away from going to sentō (public baths) for fear of being treated with suspicion and disgust. As all this suggests, the World War II hibakusha have become more and more vocal about their ordeals in Japanese society. Fast forward, and the Fukushima hibakusha are now facing the same stress and discomfort. According to a 2017 survey by Akira Imai, a professor at Fukushima University, and the Asahi Shimbun, 62 percent of the 348 Fukushima evacuees interviewed have experienced or witnessed bullying and discrimination for having been exposed. The Fukushima Kodomo Kenkō Project also reports that the accident has significantly destabilized the lifestyle of the inhabitants of the area. Their anxiety over information, fear of discrimination, as well as other changes in their everyday lives are often intertwined. As Masae Yuasa, a professor at Hiroshima City University, explains, the “evacuees at home” (i.e. those who chose to stay in contaminated areas while paying constant attention to radiation exposure) buy bottled water and vegetables from other parts of Japan, and spend significant sums to take their children away from contaminated areas during weekends or holidays. To minimize the risk of radiation, these inhabitants must constantly trade off between the financial burden against anxiety over radiation’s health consequences. Those who fled from Fukushima to start a new life elsewhere grapple with incomprehension and discrimination. Teachers, scientists and university professors often say hateful things. Consider tweets by a geology professor at Gunma University Yukio Hayakawa, who said, among other things: I could not care less about farmers from Fukushima. I don’t care if they all die. It’s literally not my problem. All I care about is me and my family: I could not stand the idea that these people are poisoning us with their products. In November 2016, the Asahi Shimbun reported that a 13-year-old boy who moved from Fukushima to Yokohama in 2011 was severely bullied at school. The bullies called him “kin” (bacteria) and extorted money from him because “people from Fukushima receive compensation.” The child explained to the police that he kept quiet because “people from Fukushima are bound to be bullied.” Why are these costs of nuclear weapons and power so invisible? It is difficult to determine how many were affected by the Fukushima spill — and there is no clear definition of who counts as “affected.” The loosely used term “evacuee” supposes a temporary status. When official counts of “evacuees” are released, they are tallying only people receiving aid. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/03/10/six-years-after-the-fukushima-disaster-its-victims-are-still- suffering/?utm_term=.9213460bd9b4 Radioactive Boars: Thousands overrunnng farmland in Fukushima. By Travis M. Andrews (04/11/2016) Excerpt: Normally, boar meat is highly desired in Japan–in fact, The Japan Times called pork “the nation’s most popular meat”–but these animals have been eating contaminated plants and small animals in the power plant’s “exclusion zone.” The Sunday Times reports recent tests have found high levels of caesium-137 in the area, which has a half-life of 30 years. These animals are unfit for human consumption, which presents another problem: hunters can attempt to reduce the population, but they have to do something with the carcasses. According to Texas A&M wildlife and fisheries professor Billy Higginbotham, the average size of a male hog is around 200 pounds. Considering this average, if 13,000 are killed, hunters have around 2,600,000 pounds of potentially dangerous flesh requiring disposal. There are few solutions. The city of Nihonmatsu, 35 miles from the plant, contains three mass graves. Each one can hold around 600 boars, but they’re nearly full, and the city’s run out of space to dig new graves. “Sooner or later, we’re going to have to ask local people to give us their land to use,” Tsuneo Saito, a local boar hunter, told The Sunday Times. “The city doesn’t own land which isn’t occupied by houses.” Some hunters have attempted to bury these bodies in their own yards, only to have them dug back up by dogs. The best solution would be incinerating the bodies, which requires a special facility that can filter out radioactive materials to prevent the resulting smoke from blanketing nearby areas and contaminating them. One such facility exists in the city of Soma, but the $1.4 million crematorium’s capacity is severely limited. It can only handle three boars a day (or 21 a week, which is only 1,092 each year; not quite 13,000) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/11/thousands-of-radioactive-boars-are-overrunning-farmland-in- fukushima/?utm_term=.fc7d3e83153c Japanese nuclear plant just recorded an astronomical radiation level.
